About us
Located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, Central China Normal University is a key comprehensive university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. As one of the universities on the list of 211 National Education Priority Project, Central China Normal University is highly recognized as an important base for cultivating brilliant talents for the country.
National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning (NERCEL) is based on and supported by Central China Normal University.In 2009, Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R. China approved the establishment of NERCEL. It is the only national level research center in education field. NERCEL has become a vital base and a first-class research center for theoretical research, technology development, product promotion and industry demonstration in education informatization.
NERCEL has set out its mission to support national education development with scientific research and graduate education. With nationwide advanced research and development in educational technology, NERCEL is home to nine national/ministry/provincial research centers. Since establishment in 2004, NERCEL has developed a strong research team with more than 70 faculty and staff members, including academicians of CAS and CAE, and extinguished scholars listed in national “New Century Talents Project”, “New Century Excellent Talents Project” supported by MOE, and “Chutian Scholar Program” supported by Hubei Province. In addition, NERCEL has developed many long-term research projects with world-class research institutions and scholars.
NERCEL’s research focuses include: big data and knowledge engineering, E-Learning theories and applications, intelligent learning system, theory and method of knowledge service, and strategic planning of ICT development in education. NERCEL offers five master degree programs in Education Technology, Computer Application Technology, Management Science and Engineering, Communication and Information System and Information Technology in Education, 3 doctoral programs in Information Technology in Education, Education Technology and Management Science and Engineering, and hosts a workstation for post-doctoral researchers.
National Engineering Laboratory for Technology of Big Data Applications in Education (NELTBDAE) at Central China Normal University was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in January 2017. It became the only national-level big data engineering laboratory in the education field.
NELTBDAE’s mission is to become a world-class research institution for big data research in education, applications, services and talent development. Research focuses include learning analytics, educational data mining, data integration and sharing, data visualization, intelligent decision making, and education policies.
NELTBDAT aims to promote education quality and equality of China, facilitate the growth of the nation’s educational governance capacity, and support the realization of China’s vision of educational modernization.
Positions & Qualifications
NERCEL and NELTBDAE invite outstanding applicants to apply for PI, faculty, and research staff positions.
NERCEL invites applications in the following areas: Computer Application Technology, Mathematics,Education, Management Science and Engineering,System Engineering, Psychology and other related fields.
NELTBDAE invites applications in the following areas: Computer Science, Predictive Modeling, Statistical Methods for Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
1. Principal Investigator
i. Applicants should hold a Ph.D degree. Ideal candidates are expected to be professors or senior research scientists in prestigious universities or research institutions and should be under 50.
ii. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding research achievements and have served as PI for at least one national-level research project in the past 3 years.
iii.Priorities given to Academicians of the two academies (Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering), talents listed in Long-term “Program of Global Experts”, Short-term “Recruitment Program of Global Talents” and Chang Jiang Scholars Program, outstanding talents of “National Special Support Program”, talents winning “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars” .

2. Faculty Positions
i.Applicants should hold (or expect to receive by July, 2017) a Ph.D degree. Ideal candidates should be graduates from elite universities.
ii. Candidates are expected to be outstanding scholars with a proven record of achievements. Age requirements may also be considered.
- Candidates for professor positions should have at least 1 academic paper published in SCI/SSCI-Level A indexed journals in the past 3 years. Only first author or corresponding author publications will be accepted. Ideal candidates are expected to be under 40.
- Candidates for associate professor positions should have at least 1 academic paper published in SCI/SSCI-Level B indexed journals in the past 3 years. Only first author or corresponding author publications will be accepted. Ideal candidates are expected to be under 35.
- Candidates for lecturer positions should have at least 1 academic paper published in SCI/SSCI indexed journals. Only first author or corresponding author publications are accepted. Ideal candidates are expected to be under 35.Fresh Ph.D graduates are expected to be under 30.
Salary, benefits and other supports will be offered in accordance with the university standards.
3.Research Staff
i. Candidates should hold (or expect to receive by July, 2017) a Ph.D/Master’s degree. Ideal candidates should be graduates from elite universities.
ii. Candidates should have at least 2 academic publications. Candidates with Ph.D degree should have at least 1 academic paper published in SCI/SSCI indexed journals in the past 3 years. Only first author or corresponding author publications will be accepted.
iii.Fresh Ph.D graduates are expected to be under 30. Fresh master graduates are expected to be under 26. For applicants with prior work experience, the age requirements will be 35 and 30 for Ph.D and Master respectively.
