The 2011 ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work

Date:2010/11/12

Welcome to the website for the 2011 ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work. CSCW 2011 will be the twenty-third CSCW conference and will be held on the edge of scenic West Lake in Hangzhou, China from March 19–23. We are very excited to host CSCW in Asia this year, the first time that the conference will be held outside of North America. We chose the theme of “Building Bridges” for this year’s conference to reflect the way that CSCW bridges between social and technical communities, to encourage building bridges with the Asian CSCW research community by hosting it in China, and to evoke the image of bridges for which the city of Hangzhou is known.

CSCW is a premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and communities. The development and application of new technologies continues to enable new ways of working together and coordinating activities. Although work is an important area of focus for the conference, technology is increasingly supporting a wide range of recreational and social activities. CSCW has also embraced an increasing range of devices, as we collaborate from different contexts and situations. The conference brings together top researchers and practitioners from academia and industry who are interested in both the technical and social aspects of collaboration.

Holding CSCW in a new environment has inspired us to try some new things this year. This is the first CSCW to establish our new annual rhythm for the conference. Please take note of the submission dates this year (Papers and Notes will be submitted in August 2010), mark your calendars, check this website regularly, and start planning early! We are also trying some different venues as part of the conference this year. Please explore theCall for Participationto find the best place or places for you to submit your work.

On behalf of Nic Ducheneaut and Jakob Bardram (Papers & Notes Co-chairs) and the rest of the conference committee, we invite you to begin planning your submissions and participation in the 2011 CSCW conference!
