8th Pacific Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology held in CCNU

From 20th to 24th Nov, 8th Pacific Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology was held in CCNU. The meeting, held in Yifu International Conference Center, was undertaken by National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning (NERCEL) as well as Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute. More than one hundred experts and scholars at home and abroad attended the meeting. They are from nearly 20 countries and regions such as Canada, New Zealand, Chile, Hungary, Finland and Germany.

 

 Professor Yu Xinguo introduced the general state of the meeting

Yu Xinguo, Chairman of the meeting, Deputy Director of NERCEL and Wollongong Joint Institute, introduced the general state of the meeting at opening ceremony. The meeting had invited Professor Jiang Xiaoyi,  Chief Professor in the Department of Math and Computer Science at University of Munster, Chief Editor of International Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence Journal, and Yan Shuicheng, Dean of 360 Artificial Intelligence Institute, present Vice-president of 360 Institute and Associate Professor of National University of Singapore, as well as the other two famous professors and scholars at home and abroad to deliver keynote speeches for the main session. Not only did they introduce the progress and results of Image and video technology in respective research area, but also discussed development tendency and research direction in the future with the delegates.

Professor Jiang Xiaoyi talked about “Biomedical Imaging: A Galisonian Perspective for Sciences”

Professor Domingo Mery talked on “Modern Computer Vision Techniques for X-ray Testing in Baggage Inspection”

The meeting lasted 4 days, including a one-day seminar and a 1.5-day main session. Thereinto, many theoretical researchers and practitioners devoted to research and contribution of image and video technology gathered at the seminar to jointly conduct the thematic communication and discussions. The main session had invited researchers, artists, developers, educators and experts focusing on the research of image and video technology, from the Pacific coast and all over the world, to introduce and explore research theories and practice methods of image and video technology at the forefront.

It is reported that the Pacific Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology was first held in Xinzhu, Taiwan in 2006. It bases on home-and-abroad academic research of image and video technology and aimed at providing opportunities for communication with each other on theoretical research and application practice. The Pacific Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology is held biennially, and it was the first time to be held on Chinese Mainland.
