JI Held the First Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony of UOW

On 20th June, the First Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony of UOW were held at the Yifu International Conference Hall. Professor Wilma Vialle, UOW Chair of Academic Senate and Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Social Sciences Presiding Officer, Professor Christian Ritz, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, Professor Jiangtao Xi, Deputy Dean of JI, Professor Hong Qin ,Vice Chair of University Council, CCNU, Professor Zongkui Zhou, Dean of Graduate School of CCNU, Feng Hong, Deputy Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Division and relevant persons in charge of JI together with all teachers and students of JI attended the ceremony.

The ceremony kicked off with the Chinese National Anthem and Australian National Anthem. The master of the ceremony, Professor Jiangtao Xi, officially announced the ceremony.

Commissioned by President Xinguo Yu, Mr. Helin Wu, deputy dean of JI, gave a welcome speech on behalf of JI. He reviewed the development history of the JI in the past two years. He said, under the support of schools and related functional departments, JI has a growing faculty, the scale and quality of students go hand in hand, and teaching resources continue to increase. He especially thanked the first graduates for their understanding, support and tolerance, and made a good start in teaching, scientific research and personnel training. Finally, through personal experience, he encouraged students to face challenges and do their best.

Professor Hong Qin delivered the occasional address at the graduation ceremony. He first expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the first graduates of JI for the successful completion of their studies, and raised three proposals. Firstly, adhere to your faith and self-discipline. Secondly, never stop learning and thinking. Keep learning and meditation with critical thinking. thirdly, take your responsibility and act for the better life of human kind. Graduated as a computer major, graduands should not only follow the trend of scientific development, keep abreast with the social advance, but lead the world in your own way as well. Finally, Professor Hong Qin sent sincere wishes to all the graduates and invited the students to return CCNU and take this place as their home for soul.

Then, Professor Wilma Vialle, Chair of Academic Senate and Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Social Sciences Presiding Officerawarded the master's degree of UOW to each of the 2018 graduates.

Subsequently, Professor Wilma Vialle presented the Certificate for Outstanding Student Award of UOW for the 2018 graduate Shaojun Shen. Professor Zongkui Zhou, Dean of the Graduate School of CCNU, awarded the certificate of outstanding graduates of CCNU for the 2018 graduate Luoling Xu.

Shaojun Shen, the graduate representative, reviewed the two-year postgraduate students’ life in Guizi mountain. He thanked the mentor for his encouragement in the field of academic research and the help of his classmates in life. He said that if he leaves school, he will “never forget his initiative motivation” and never stop the pursuit of scientific research and knowledge.

Finally, Professor Wilma Vialle warmly congratulated the six graduates who had successfully completed their studies and successfully obtained their degrees. She said that the education received by fellow students at the JI of CCNU is bound to be a driving force for graduates to continue on the career ladder. She hopes that the graduates will meet the challenges of their careers in a dynamic and confident manner and use their own learning to contribute to society.

Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute was jointly established by the Central China Normal University and the University of Wollongong, Australia, and was officially approved by the Ministry of Education as a Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution. JI aims to cultivate high-level international talents with innovative abilities and entrepreneurial abilities. It has set up master's degree and above, advanced degree programs, and advanced research. Since 2016, JI has started to recruit graduate students in computer technology and electronics and communications engineering. In 2018, the first cohort of graduates from JI received a master's degree from Central China Normal University and a master's degree from University of Wollongong.
