Professor Yantao Wei Invited to an International Academic Conference in Russia and Delivers a Keynote Speech

On April 1, 2026, the XXI International Scientific - Practical Conference was held at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in Saint Petersburg. Under the theme “New Educational Strategies in the Open Digital Space”, the conference adopted a hybrid format (both online and offline), bringing together experts and scholars from Russia, China, and other countries to discuss cutting-edge issues in education digitalization. The event was organized by the university’s Institute of Information Technologies and Technological Education.

Professor Yantao Wei, from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education (FoAIE), was invited to attend the conference and deliver a presentation. The conference organizing committee formally issued a certificate of recognition for his report. Professor Wei presented a talk titled “Classroom Speech Act Coding with Large Language Models”, in which he systematically shared his research findings on the automatic coding of classroom speech acts using Large Language Models (LLMs). The study explored how AI can improve the efficiency and accuracy of classroom interaction analysis. Building on traditional classroom interaction analysis frameworks, Professor Wei and his team developed an enhanced coding framework. Using high-quality classroom video data, they constructed an experimental dataset and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of mainstream LLMs’ coding performance. The research confirms that LLMs can effectively support classroom discourse analysis and instructional diagnosis, offering a new technical pathway for intelligent classroom assessment and high-quality teaching enhancement.

In recent years, the FoAIE has maintained close academic exchanges with Russian universities, steadily advancing practical collaborations such as academic summer schools, faculty visits, and joint research projects. This invitation and the official certificate of Professor Wei’s report represent a significant milestone in deepening international exchanges and substantive cooperation between the FoAIE and Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.

Moving forward, the FoAIE will align with CCNU’s overall plan for international engagement. It will continue to expand the scope of collaboration with Russian universities, deepen faculty-student exchanges, joint research, and the application of research outcomes. Through high-level international cooperation, the FoAIE aims to support the high-quality development of academic disciplines and talent cultivation.
